The brief
Better Origin have an ambitious mission; to fix the broken food chain by replacing deforestation-linked soy and grains with insect feed, specifically in the egg production process.
Having developed a new groundbreaking process for turning insects into chicken feed, Better Origin were looking to secure investment to scale this new process/opportunity. Whilst there were plans afoot for a facility in the future that could carry out this process at huge scale, in order to demonstrate it at a smaller scale and get investors on board, Better Origin needed a prototype facility to be built.
Challenges
For the team at Better Origin this was new territory as they had never done anything like this before and felt they didn’t have enough experience to deliver a project of this scale. They were worried that their lack of experience would result in the project hitting serious pitfalls they hadn’t foreseen, and as a result running over time, and sending the cost of the project spiraling upwards.
In addition, they were also faced with a very short timeframe to complete the project, adding extra pressure to execute the project right first time.
Our solution
Oakley took care of the entire project, from detailed design to fit-out and handover of the new facility, which included entrance and changing area, hygiene area, blending room, packing room and chiller.
Elements of fit-out work included civils and drainage, 30 minute fire rated PIR white wall paneling, PU resin flooring and coving, epoxy flooring, lighting, plumbing, and HVAC.
