The brief
Berkshire Meats is a meat wholesaler/distributor for butchers and supermarkets around the UK. Founded in 1971 in Reading Berkshire Meats have continued to grow nationwide.
Berkshire Meats’ current unit was reaching its full capacity and the company needed more space to ensure that business growth continued. With this in mind, a new 10,000 sqft building was secured nearby to the existing unit, giving spare capacity for their future growth. The building was a blank canvas, requiring significant structural modifications and full fitout to food production standards. However, with the level of growth they were experiencing, resources were already stretched causing the owners to realise they didn’t have the expertise or resource to try to deliver this project themselves without significantly impacting the day to day running of the business.
Our solution
The directors had heard of other similar businesses that had negative experience with incompetent contractors so they were keen to find a partner they felt they could trust with a project of this size, with the experience and the expertise to understand what they wanted from their new production space.
Oakley were engaged by Berkshire Meats to deliver the project covering the full scope from design through to final handover. This included building a cutting room, hanging room, fridge, freezer, mezzanine storage, offices and staff welfare facilities with a changing room, toilets and canteens.
Oakley provided an end-to-end turnkey approach to the project, giving the directors of Berkshire Meats peace of mind that the project would be completed on time and on budget. This allowed them to focus on ensuring the company’s growth continued.
Summary
With the project now complete and operations safely relocated, Berkshire Meats have a facility that not only future proofs their ongoing growth but gives them a state of the art space that they can be proud of and show off to their clients. We were delighted to be a key partner to this project and ensure it was delivered to our client with less stress, less disruption and less risk!
