Food Factory Design, On-time & On Budget

1

Scoping, Concept Design and Planning: For larger projects we will begin in the concept design and planning phase. This is typically done when it’s a ground up factory build and requires architectural drawings and applying for planning permission. We will sit down with you and your team to find out about your growth plans and further understand your business model and process. With this understanding we are able to translate your requirements into initial concept designs or architectural designs for planning. We will then take care of submitting these plans to your local council along with documentation to provide the strongest case for approval.

2

Detailed Design: We usually start here when a project doesn’t require planning permission for a ground up build or extension, or once planning permission has been secured. Whether your project is to build a new food factory from the ground up, fit out current space you have in your premises, or transform a new unit into a food production facility, detailed construction drawings are now required. This is crucial to ensure that every detail is taken care of and your finished factory will meet your requirements. This is a collaborative process, where our design team work alongside you over a period of 6-8 weeks to bring your vision to life. At the end of this phase, you will be presented with a full set of detailed construction drawings alongside a comprehensive scope of works and fixed proposal for the build and fit-out phases. This detailed design pack is yours to share if you wish to get alternative quotes.

3

Factory Build and Fit Out: If you are confident in our turnkey approach and happy with the design, we can then proceed with the building and fitting out of your new food factory according to the detailed design. This enables you to completely step back from the project, allowing you to focus on running and growing your business, knowing it’s in safe hands. We will take care of:

Our aim is always to make your project, stress-free and cost-effective, so we have a clear process that ensures your 100% satisfaction.

No. Oakley’s design and build phases are structured as separate stages. At the end of the detailed design phase, you receive a complete pack of construction drawings, a full scope of works and a fixed-cost proposal for the build. However, if you choose to proceed with Oakley for the build, their turnkey approach allows you to step back entirely from the construction process, with a dedicated contract manager, site manager and full visibility via their Procore project management platform, backed by a 12-month workmanship guarantee.

The detailed design phase is a collaborative process where Oakley’s in-house design team works alongside you and your team over a period of approximately 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, every detail of your food factory layout is refined and finalised, potential design issues are identified and resolved and a full set of construction drawings along with a comprehensive scope of works and fixed-cost proposal.

Yes. For projects that require planning permission, like ground-up factory builds or extensions, Oakley manages the entire planning process on your behalf. This includes creating the architectural drawings needed for the application, preparing support documentation to build the strongest possible case for approval, submitting the application to your local council, and liaising directly with the planning authority throughout the process.

Yes. Oakley’s designs are built around the highest standards in hygiene, efficiency and health and safety compliance. Their experience working in the food and beverage manufacturing industry means they understand the specific requirements of certifications, like BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards) and SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval). By aligning the design of your factory with these certification requirements from the outset, Oakley ensures that your finished facility will not require costly modifications later to pass audits. This is a key advantage of their turnkey approach in comparison to managing separate designers and contractors yourself.
