The brief
Ulrick & Short are recognised as the leading clean label ingredient supplier in the food manufacturing industry.
As consumer demand grew and new industry challenges came about, the owners of Ulrick & Short began to plan their next phase of growth, recognising an opportunity to begin producing in-house. This meant new laboratory and production space was required as well as a large warehouse to process and distribute their ingredients out to consumers.
Feeling out of their depth, Ulrick & Short turned to Oakley for support. Never tackling a project of this size or nature before, meant they required an experienced food industry design and build partner to take on their expansion project.
Our solution
Oakley stepped into this project to relieve the Ulrick & Short directors from the day-to-day running of this project.
Oakley’s in-house design team worked with Ulrick & Short to understand their needs and design accordingly to their production process. We could then supply a full pack of construction drawings alongside a detailed project programme and fixed cost package before the build phase began.
The operations team led the next phase with Oakley’s capable and experienced project managers overseeing every detail of the project whilst updating the client with weekly progress. The Oakley process meant the Ulrick & Short team were relieved from the sometimes tedious issues that can arise when managing a project and are often overlooked.
Oakley successfully delivered the following facilities:
- Production room – mixing and packing areas
- Changing rooms
- Washdown rooms
- Testing kitchen
- Testing lab
- Sampling office
- Offices and lavatories
- Warehouse racking installation

- Installation of white walling
- Resin and vinyl flooring
- Power supplies for equipment
- Lab fit out
- Design and supply of racking
- Line marking and safety signage around warehouse
- Installation of rapid rise and personnel doors
Summary
It was a great success collaborating with Ulrick & Short throughout this project. The Ulrick & Short team have now moved into their new space with production and distribution now underway in-house.
