The brief
With little experience in running these types of projects in-house, Smith & Brock looked to bring in a partner who could supply an end-to-end design and build process.
Our client is aware of the unforeseen costs and delays that come about in these projects when managing multiple subcontractors and purchasing all materials for a project. Timelines don’t align, conflict is created onsite, wrong materials are delivered, subcontractors start to blame each other and so on!
The owners of Smith & Brock were already snowed under, experiencing rapid business growth, and managing the day-to-day operations of the business they couldn’t afford to have any major distractions, and knew they needed to bring in an experienced partner to take on the whole process.
Our solution
Oakley came in to relieve the stress and distraction that these multiple projects were bringing by overseeing the design and build of this new fresh produce facility from start to finish.
Our process enabled the team at Whitworths to step back and focus on core business operations without the worry of material/labour delays and unforeseen costs spiraling.
We supported our client right through from the design phase to fit out and completion. As this unit was secured down the road from their current manufacturing facility, we wanted to ensure that the space was maximised and the design was well thought out to enable greater efficiency to their production and storage.
Our design team worked with Smith & Brock to complete a detailed design pack with a full set of drawings alongside a fixed cost for the project. We could then begin the construction phase of the project, overseeing all elements of work allowing the team at Smith & Brock to step away from the project knowing it was in safe and experienced hands.
The new facility included:
- Goods in/out area
- Prep rooms
- Chilled storage
- Freezer storage
- Offices, kitchen and changing areas
Summary
We really enjoyed working with Smith & Brock on this next phase of growth. This project highlighted how valuable our turnkey process is, to ensure our client could step away from the project and avoid distraction to the day-to-day running and growth to their business.
